Emergency

Over 30 years ago, a group of local veterinarians came together to form CVES – The Columbus Veterinary Emergency Service. This Emergency Service is now a part of MedVet which has grown into one of the largest emergency and specialty care centers in the country.

The MedVet Emergency Service staff of veterinarians and veterinary technicians have been specially trained in the latest procedures and techniques related to the practice of emergency medicine. These compassionate, dedicated people stand ready to treat your pet 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

One of the things that make our Emergency Service unique is the close working relationships that the ER doctors have with the MedVet specialists. The emergency doctor can consult with a boarded surgeon, internist, cardiologist, dermatologist, radiologist, radiation oncologist, ophthalmologist, or neurologist at any time of day to determine what the best path is for your pet. This is not just one of the benefits of MedVet; it's also a philosophy.

Each of our doctors believes that the best way to care for your pet is through a team approach. One of the members of this team should be your primary veterinarian. This is why your regular vet will receive copies of your pet's medical records, laboratory findings, and treatment plan within 24 hours of your visit. This will enable them to have an active part in the continuing care of your pet.

If your pet should have a medical emergency, first contact your primary care veterinarian. If your veterinarian is not available or recommends a trip to MedVet, you should immediately bring your pet in.

When possible, you or your veterinarian should call the Emergency Service before you bring your pet in so that our staff can be prepared for your arrival.

When you arrive at MedVet, an experienced Emergency Service doctor will see your pet. After this initial treatment, post and/or continuing care options will be discussed.
